Gunday is an upcoming action Hindi film, written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra. The film will feature Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor in the lead roles while Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan appear in supporting roles. The shooting of the film was done in Kolkata and some parts at Durgapur and Raniganj. According to sources, the film's story is based on the lives of two small time thieves who later get involved in the coal mafia.The film will be released on 14 February 2014.

The film will also be released in Bengali with a full Bengali songs composed by Bappi Lahiri. This will be also the first Indian film to have its trailer premier at the Dubai International Film Festival.

In August 2012, Ali Abbas Zafar revealed that the film is titled Gunday and set in 1970's where Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor play gangsters by the name of Bikram and Bala. Earlier rumours stated that Katrina Kaif will have a role in the film but director confirmed Priyanka Chopra as the lead actress and love interest of male actors. Ali Zafar also commented that both the lead actors will be seen as Bengalis in the film.Both Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor debuted with YRF banner in Band Baaja Baaraat and Ishaqzaade, respectively. They have been undergoing physical training to fit the role.  Actor Irrfan Khan was selected for the role of an Intelligence agent in the film where Khan stated "I will be playing a 'larger than life' character in the film".[11] Later actor Sushant Singh was hired for a cameo role in the film.[12]

Filming[edit]

The film was primarily shot in Mumbai at Yash Raj Studios followed by long schedule in Kolkata.[13] Actor Ranveer Singh injured himself while shooting after falling from height; he was rushed to the nearest hospital.[14] During filming in Kolkata, some old native professionals were hired to create the set for a Durga Puja song sequence under the Howrah Bridge to give it a realistic look of 1980's.[15] The film unit has been shooting at Khottadih Colliery area, Durgapur subdivision of Eastern Coalfields Limited. Four persons, including three crew members, on their way to the shoot were injured when the Toyota Innova they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on NH-2 near Bansra in Raniganj police station area on 21 September 2013. The truck driver fled but both the vehicles had been seized. The production team turned back to Mumbai for the shoot after finishing schedule in Kolkata.[16] Priyanka Chopra will be seen doing a Cabaret number in the movie keeping vintage image.[17] Bappi Lahiri worked with Yash Raj Films for the first time for this movie.[18]

The teaser trailer of Gunday was released on 21 November 2013, [19] while the theatrical trailer was released on 13 December 2013. [20][21] The theatrical trailer of Gunday was also attached with Dhoom 3.[22]
